ASM space requirements?

Hi!
Does anyone know what the space requirements for the ASM (10gR2) instance are?
That is, software, its own data files but not the drives it manages for the data database.

It's supposed to be running on Linux RH 4 and it will manage about 300GB distributed across 6 or twelve partitions of 3 drives with external redundancy.

Also, how does the disk layout of the ASM instance itself affects the performance of the data database?
