Hi,
i have a oracle db 9.0 version in a windows 2003 server machine.

the net service name of that oracle db in a remote windows 2003 server machine is say insp.
if i login as administrator of that remote machine and type connect sys/asdsadf@insp as sysdba it is getting connected. the password mentioned is random and a wrong one.

how the oracle db is authenticating the password for sysdba.
pl note that if i log as another user (not an adminstrator), then the same is not getting connected

my second query is if there are 2 db running in the machine, then
connect / as sysdba throws service handle not initialised error.
this error is coming even after setting oracle_sid in the command prompt explicitely.
But connecting with the sys/syspassword@net_service_name as sysdba is working by giving the correct net service name of the db.
why the earlier way wasnt working ??
thanks in advance
giri

when i commented the SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) line in sqlnet.ora in the remote machine/localmachine, then it didnt allow to login with a wrong password.

what does this mean ??
